Different divorce options

When a Florida couple files for divorce, they may assume that they must go in front of a judge to determine who the kids will live with and how they will divide their marital property. However, this process can be time consuming and expensive for both parties. There are several other options that may have if they can work together.

If the couple is attempting to end their marriage amicably, an uncontested divorce may be a good option. In order for this type of divorce to work, both parties must be able to put their emotions aside and agree to an equitable split that allows both to thrive once the divorce is finalized. Both parties usually are fully aware of the family's financial situation and are willing to split their assets in a way that makes sense. A settlement can be drawn up and agreed upon within just a few weeks.

Mediation is another option for those who do not want to deal with the time and expense of litigation. An impartial third party, who may or may not be an attorney, will attempt to guide the parties to a resolution of their issues. Of course, each party is entitled to have separate legal representation throughout the proceedings.

Even if a couple is going through an amicable divorce, the process can still be stressful on everyone involved. As a result, many couples who are facing the end of a marriage rely on their respective family law attorneys to handle the negotiations of a comprehensive settlement agreement that once reached can be presented to the court for its approval.
